Competency 6
 Participate Actively in the Profession

For the competency “Participate Actively in the Profession”, I have chosen the presentation from EDCI 52002. The sub-competency, “Identify communities of practice within discipline and participate within these communities according to the ethical standards of the discipline”, is met by this presentation because it explores and evaluates the potential career possibilities that are supported by a master degree in curriculum and instruction.

After fifteen years of teaching secondary English, I have started exploring options outside of traditional education. For this presentation, I was required to investigate my possible career interests and professions I could possibly see myself in. I researched professional organizations that could positively impact a new career and help me create connections to other professionals. I also listed scholarly journals with the potential to guide my growing skills. Careers that interest me, such as ed tech, and their work details are cited as something that could be in my future. Finally, my own skill set is provided to show what I know of myself and where I have the potential to grow. All of these areas need reflection when considering professional choices and how to rejuvenate my skills for whatever career path I select. It’s important to examine all journeys that my skills and credentials can take me on.
